STC UK Chapter one-day event: Wikis and Blogs for the Technical Writer
Saturday, 10th March 2007, The Orange Studio, Birmingham
Our 2007 spring event takes place in the Birmingham on Saturday 10th March at The Orange Studio.
Fifteen years ago, few of us had heard of the internet. Now, most of us have our own website, or work for companies that do. But is that enough? Are we actually making effective use of the full range of internet tools and technologies that are currently available to us? Do we simply publish information to a static web site, or do we use our web presence to facilitate effective two-way communications with our clients? And if we are doing so today, do we understand the web tools that will be available to us tomorrow, or next year, or the year after that?
To help you keep up to date in this fast-changing field, STC UK are holding a one-day seminar on Saturday March 10th in the centre of Birmingham. Our venue will be The Studio, just 4 minutes walk from New Street station.

Crawford Currie, C-dot Consultants
In a past life, senior consultant Crawford Currie was a technical manager with Motorola, the global telecoms company. While with Motorola, Crawford grew frustrated with the standard of the groupware and teamworking tools employed, at great expense, by the corporation. So he did something about it, introducing Motorola to the TWiki application server platform. On behalf of C-Dot, Crawford has been involved in a range of groupware consulting projects for companies throughout the world. He is the author of numerous patches and plugins for TWiki, and is a key contributor to the core platform. Ellis Pratt, Cherryleaf
Ellis is Sales and Marketing Director for Cherryleaf, and he has over ten years experience working on documentation projects. He is an accomplished speaker on topics such as the future trends for user assistance, online Help and online communities. He is the author of "Tech Writing 2.0 - The application of Web 2.0 technologies to technical documentation" and "Network to Get Work". His philosophy is winning by sharing, connecting people to what they seek, networked businesses and people. The aim is to create a network of business professionals who support one another, learning, networking and trading.
