Membership
A double request ...

... which differs greatly from my normal double entendres! And is less likely to offend both from a sensibilities point and the "groan" factor.

First the good news (a piece I've trumpeted before), we managed to increase the community membership last year by an impressive 29%. And with those who joined so far this year our total should have reached 147 active members.

The not-so-good news, 24% of members haven't renewed this year. In real terms, that means 36 people didn't renew and, despite my resounding success in the election, 36 people who didn't get the opportunity to vote!

That's 36 who won't be getting their copies of Intercom or Technical Communication this month. Who won't be eligible for member discounts at STC events. They will, however, "win" an email from the office reminding them to join and, if that's not enough, then we'll "send the boys round" with an email from me!

In other words, if you haven't renewed and you just needed that gentle reminder to do so, this is the first.

We're an extremely active community but we do still need everyone's support.

This isn't just as a member but as an active, participatory member.

Hopefully you are all aware that yours truly has been elected Second Vice President and must serve four years on the main board. Apart from the momentous historic precedent of being the first non-North American to get on the board, it will leave a hole in the UK Chapter's management team.

Yes, sadly, I must relinquish my role as Membership Manager.

I suspect you won't all rush at once to take over but, as ever, we need one of you to take over. It's not an arduous job - about 5 or 6 hours a month on average, plus a couple of phone meetings in the evenings. Oh, and the column for the newsletter. After that you can be as involved in Chapter affairs as you want to be.

If you're interested in learning more please contact David Farbey (President@stcuk.org) or me membership@stcuk.org.

Please welcome new UK Community Members
