Job Description
The Technical Writer is responsible for researching, producing and maintaining end-user and / or technical documentation for Wall Street Systems products and services.
The position is directly integrated into the core product design and development team and involves close cooperation with the development, quality assurance and product management departments to design and validate user documentation.
Key Responsibilities
The candidate is expected:
- To develop, author and implement end-user documentation artefacts on Wall Street Systems products in accordance with the company’s processes and procedures.
For major releases this typically will involve: the creation of a documentation plan; incorporation of the product enhancements (preview guides, online help guides, release notes, etc.); coordination of other release documentation (supported hardware & software documentation, installation guides, etc.) For interim releases: create release notes and the coordination for other release documentation (supported hardware & software documentation, installation guides, etc.) For service patches: the creation of release notes. - To maintain and update documentation, as required, with information originating from enhancements to technology or product function.
- To import information resulting from bug fixes into the appropriate documentation.
- To provide writing, editing, and research support, as required, to other members of the documentation team and within the organization.
- To support related documentation activities, including but not limited to the following: preparing CDs of documentation for customers, updating the documentation websites, and providing support on translation projects.
- To be responsible for product libraries that are limited in scope.
- To eventually take ownership of small documentation projects (such as product guides, introductory guides, etc.).
- To ensure the availability of the documentation via internal servers, the extranet and the intranet.
- To interface with internal customers in regard to documentation requests.
Required Skills and Knowledge The successful candidate is expected to respond to the following criteria:
1) Technical skills - Native English speaker.
- 2 years experience working on medium to large development projects in a documentation capacity.
- Good practice of complete MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, etc.).
- Knowledge of Framemaker, RoboHelp HTML, Paint Shop Pro and other graphics applications as required, Web authoring tools (preferred); experience with markup-language authoring platforms is a plus.
- Good understanding of finance and banking industry concepts and/or experience from the financial industry or strong interest in finance is a plus.
- Experience in financial software development/documentation is an asset.
- Good knowledge of the technical information and technology concepts related to computer hardware and software applications.
- Knowledge of Windows Operating System; experience with Linux, Solaris, HP-UX, or UNIX a plus, as well as experience with databases and scripting languages are a plus.
- Exposure to DITA is an asset.
- Qualified candidates have a university degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or relevant business experience.
