Teaching Assistant: Technical Communication

Description: Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the post of Teaching Assistant in Technical Communication in the Department of Languages and Cultural Studies. The Department offers a number of graduate and undergraduate courses with technical communication components: MA in E-Learning Design and Development, Graduate Diploma/MA in Technical Communication, Graduate Certificate in Technical Communication (by distance learning), and BAs in Applied Languages with Computing, Applied Languages, New Media and English, and Languages and Cultural Studies. The section will also run a summer school, in association with the International Education Division, for the first time in 2006.
Candidates for the Teaching Assistant post must have a strong interest in technology and usability, and expertise in software for technical communication. Candidates should have a postgraduate qualification in technical communication or a cognate discipline, preferably a PhD and should also have experience in university teaching and/or online information delivery. Industry experience in a technical communication or e-learning environment would be an advantage. Knowledge of one or more European languages would also be an advantage.
The person appointed will participate in the development and delivery of courses for on-campus and distance learning students within the Technical Communication section. He/she will teach for between 10-15 hours per week, plus related duties. Research is not a central requirement of the post, but a demonstrated commitment to scholarly activity will be an advantage. Description: A client of ours is looking for a second technical author to join its team. The company is a leader in its industry sector, producing equipment that is used and enjoyed in many offices throughout Europe. You'll be producing documents that will be used by colleagues to help them install, commission and service the machines, so it's really important the documents are clear and and easy to use. Whilst the majority of work will be developing technical manuals, bulletins and training material, you'll also be able to get involved with the other documents they produce. This includes working on marketing literature, advertising layouts and photographic images.
